A high-quality three-dimensional image is provided by using a liquid crystal display device. The three-dimensional display device is an active matrix LCD display which includes a polarization shielded smectic liquid crystal display device (PSS-LCD). The three-dimensional display device has a configuration of a combination of optical shutter eye-glasses and the LCD display in which the optical response waiting time of when the displayed image is updated by linear sequential driving is 100 µs to 1 ms when the image rewrite cycle is 10 ms or less.
