<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of improving image quality of a color display while increasing use efficiency of light and power efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The display device is configured to emit red light and blue light from a backlight unit 3 in a backlight lighting periodΔTon1 and to emit green light from the backlight unit 3 in a backlight lighting periodΔTon2. The emitting period (lighting period) of each primary color light in a single vertical period is longer than a period in a conventional field-sequential system. In the backlight lighting periodΔTon2, only green light is emitted and modulated both in sub-pixels 20A and 20B. This increases an aperture ratio during full-color display compared to a conventional color filter system of three primary colors. Further, in the backlight lighting periodΔTon1, both of red light and blue light are emitted, which suppresses occurrence of a color break phenomenon. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
