<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane electrode assembly in which amount of use of a catalyst substance can be reduced and output performance is improved by effectively utilizing the catalyst substance on the gas diffusion layer side having a high substance diffusion performance in an electrode catalyst layer, and to provide a solid polymer fuel cell. <P>SOLUTION: The membrane electrode assembly in a solid polymer fuel cell has a polymer electrolyte membrane interposed between a pair of electrode catalyst layers, and the pair of electrode catalyst layers are interposed between a pair of gas diffusion layers. The electrode catalyst layer has a polymer electrolyte, a catalyst substance, and a carbon carrier to carry the catalyst substance, and in one of the electrode catalyst layer, the content ratio of the polymer electrolyte in the electrode catalyst layer is reduced on the side in contact with the gas diffusion layer compared with the side in contact with the polymer electrolyte membrane, and the content ratio of the catalyst substance in the electrode catalyst layer is increased on the side in contact with the gas diffusion layer than the side in contact with the polymer electrolyte membrane. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
