<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereoscopic image display apparatus and method, by which a stereoscopic image can be visualized, even when a user tries to visualize an image by coming closer to the stereoscopic image display apparatus than a viewing area in the prior art. <P>SOLUTION: The stereoscopic display apparatus includes an image display 1, a light source unit 2, an optical member 3, a display control unit 100, an image capturing apparatus 200, and an image recognition unit 300. The display control unit 100 causes the image display 1 to display an element image corresponding to the aperture 3a of the optical member 3 to display in partial image areas 5a and 5b separated from each other.
