<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a flat display device without deteriorating productivity and coating amount accuracy. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the method for producing the flat display device, a paste is applied to a product substrate K2 at a predetermined application speed within a predetermined application time by using an application head 2 discharging the paste from a nozzle and keeping a predetermined clearance distance from the nozzle. In the method, a first conditioning substrate K1 is turned inside a horizontal plane at a linear velocity equal to the application speed, the application head 2 discharges the paste at a first discharge pressure for only a predetermined application time while keeping the clearance distance, a first paste weight on the substrate K1 is measured, a second paste weight on a second conditioning substrate K2 applied at a second discharge pressure in a similar manner is measured, a relational expression between a discharge pressure and a paste weight is obtained from the measured values, a discharge pressure giving a desired paste weight is obtained from the relational expression, and the paste is applied to the product substrate K2 by using the obtained discharge pressure, the clearance distance, the application speed, and the application time.
