The engine has a valve gear (1) whose gas exchange valves (9) are operated by a camshaft (13). A cam (12) of the camshaft affects on the gas exchange valves by a roller idler arm (3), where the roller idler arm has a base body and a roller (2) that is mounted on the base body. A contact between the roller of the roller idler arm and the cam is cut in a region outside a stroke contour (14) of the cam. The roller is mounted on a common axle element (19). The common axle element is provided in attachment at a stop (20). An independent claim is also included for a method for arrangement of a valve gear.
