FIELD: physics. ^ SUBSTANCE: model is made from material similar to material of the structure. The model is loaded step-by-step in the elastic region. Its microhardness is repeatedly measured on each loading step. Variance of the microhardness measurement results is calculated. A curve of microhardness variance versus stress in the model is plotted. Microhardness of the structure is repeatedly measured.
