PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image capable of ensuring wide nip width, as well as supporting speeding up, without "pressure release" which might cause image abnormalities, such as an image dislocation, and which has full luster. SOLUTION: In the image heating apparatus in which a nip portion is formed, by making outer peripheral surfaces of a rotating body and an endless belt 11 abut against each other, by sandwiching the endless belt between a pressure member 13 and the rotating body 60, and in which a recording material for carrying a toner image is heated, while being sandwiched and carried by the nip portion, the nip portion is formed with a pre-nip portion N1, formed by making a region of the endless belt that is not backed up by a pressing member in contact with the rotating body only by the elastic force of the endless belt; and a pressing nip portion N2 where a region of the endless belt that is backed up by the pressing member abuts the rotating body, and the nip portion starts from the pre-nip portion and supports the rotating body and the endless belt so that the pressing nip portion is formed continuously to a downstream side in a recording member carrying direction.
