<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connector capable of recognizing the characteristics of a counterpart, prior to the connector body being connected. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A magnetic sensor P is fitted at either of a pair of connector bodies A, B, and a magnet M is fitted at the other. The magnetic sensor P fitted at the connector body A detects magnet information corresponding to an arrangement of the magnet M, fitted at the other connector body B and outputs its magnet information. By having the magnet information outputted by the connector body in this way, the characteristics of the counterpart apparatus is determined by an apparatus connected to the connector.
