A device for dispensing measured quantities of ice-cream comprises a cylinder 1 having inlet and outlet ports 4, 3, a measuring piston and slidably guided and adapted to move, via a friction coupling 9, together with a dispensing piston 5 arranged to open or close the inlet port, the measuring piston co-operating with an abutment upon a return movement of the piston 5 in order to define a measuring chamber 201, and means 10, 102 for connecting the measuring chamber with the outlet port. The measuring piston 8 is connected to a rod 71 on which is carried a removable stop member 73 and, formed with projection 10 which, in the position shown in Fig. 1, maintains a clearance space in order to provide communication between the measuring chamber and the outlet. In operation, the dispensing piston is raised to the position shown in Fig. 3 wherein the piston 8 abuts a shoulder and the piston 5 continues until it uncovers the inlet port 4. Pressurized ice-cream is then fed into the inlet thereby forcing the measuring piston downwardly to a position limited by the stop 73. The dispensing piston 5 is then forced downwardly until the projections 10 of the piston 8 abut on end plate 2, thus allowing the ice-cream to be forced through the outlet. In the modification shown in Fig. 8 for admitting a syrup into the ice-cream as the latter is dispensed, the rod 7 is provided with a bore 307 having ports 12 controlled by a valve member 13 and the piston 5 is formed with ports 14 which co-operate with a syrup inlet port 15. In the position shown in Fig. 8, ice-cream is fed into the port 4 as previously explained and, at the same time, syrup is fed, via ports 14, 15, into a chamber 16. Upon downward movement of the piston 5, the valve member 13 uncovers the ports 12 thereby allowing the syrup to be dispensed through the port 307 together with the ice-cream. In a further modification, the slide valve 13 may be replaced by a ball valve.</p> |
