<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ammonia gas trapping composite material which can sufficiently trap ammonia gas in the solution, in particular, alkaline solution and has no bad effect of leaving a new ion in the fluid, and which is low in cost and easy to manufacture, and an alkaline battery using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The ammonia gas trapping composite material comprises a solid trapping material capable of trapping ammonia gas, a fibrillated fluororesin, and a polyolefin resin that has smaller degree of fibrillation than the above fibrilated fluororesin, and the ammonia gas is in the state capable of reaching the solid trapping material and the fluid is in the state not capable of reaching the solid trapping material.
