968,573. Delivering measured quantities of liquid. PRECISION VALVE CORPORATION. Dec. 11, 1962 [Dec. 20, 1961], No. 46803/62. Heading B8N. [Also in Division F1] In an aerosol dispenser having a metering ball 5, Fig. 1, which is forced up the dip tube 4 to deliver the liquid above it, the valve member 8 has a hollow extension 16 which projects into the dip tube when the valve is opened so that when the ball reaches the top of the dip tube, it engages and closes extension 16 until the valve is released to withdraw extension 16 into the valve housing, communication then being established between the upper and lower surfaces of the ball, by a groove 34 or pins on the end of the valve housing, to permit the ball to fall back to a stop 20. In the open position of the valve, the clearance between extension 16 and passage 15 in the valve housing is closed by engagement of frusto-conical surfaces 35 and 18, Fig. 3, on valve member 8 and housing 7, the inclination of surface 35 being less than that of surface 18 to provide a narrow contact surface. In the embodiment of Fig. 5, valve housing 7 has internal grooves 46 through which liquid passes to an aperture 45 in the discharge nozzle 6.
|
