PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing hydroxybenzoic acid derivative is provided to suppress PTP1B(protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B) and to treat diabetes and obesity. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for treating diseases caused by insulin signal transduction abnormality or leptin signal transduction abnormality contains a hydroxybenzoic acid derivative selected from chemical formulas 1-3 as an active ingredient. The disease caused by insulin signal transduction abnormality is diabetes. The disease caused by leptin signal transduction abnormality is obesity. A method for isolating the hydroxylbenzoic acid derivative comprises: a step of extracting dried Umbilicaria Antarctica sample using polar solvent selected from water, low alcohol of C1-C4, or mixture solvent thereof to obtain crude extract; and a step of fractioning crude extract through liquid chromatography.
