A choke of high current-carrying capacity for D.C. installations comprises a coil of axially adjacent turns 13, separated by insulation rings 7, of an edgewise wound strip 1 which has holes 4 through which tie bolts 6 pass to hold the winding together. The internal diameter of the coil may be 5-20 times the width of the strip. The strip may be aluminium or aluminium alloy, 10 cms. wide and 10-20 mm. thick. |
