610,114. Inlet passages for internal-combustion engines. WESLAKE, H. March 25, 1946, No. 9205. [Class 7 (ii)] In an induction system for an internalcombustion engine of the type having branch passages leading from the induction pipes to the inlet ports, each branch passage between the induction pipe 14 and valve port 12 varies in cross-sectional area at different rates in three zones in such manner that there is an abrupt change at the junction of the zones; in the first zone 16 the passage decreases in area as it extends away from the induction pipe, in the second zone 13 it is of constant or gradually increasing area, and in the third zone 15 it further increases in area to provide an outwardly flared portion which is coaxial with and joins the valve seat. |
