The present invention is related to a recombinant leucyl aminopeptidase (rLAP), derived from the 32kDa thermostable region of the aeromonas proteolytica native protein, an optimised gene encoding the aminopeptidase and a His tag, an expression vector confining the gene, a cell transformed with the expression vector, a process for preparing the active protein and a method for removal of terminal methionine from recombinant proteins of biotechnological interest. More particularly, the invention refers to a synthetic modified gene encoding for a leucyl aminopeptidase, an expression vector containing said gene, a cell transformed by said expression vector, a purification process of the active protein and a method required for obtaining recombinant interferon a-2b as a natural protein, which may be obtained in an affordable manner unlike that obtained by conventional processes.
