摘要 <p><PICT:0977893/C6-C7/1> The CO content of waste gas in an oxygen-blown steelmaking process is measured by injecting oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas into the waste gas stream 2 to produce a test flame 6 by the burning of CO to CO2 and measuring by means of a photo-cell 8 the intensity of the radiation of the flame through an intervening layer of the waste gas in order to absorb disturbing radiation resulting from sublimed iron contained in the waste gas. In the arrangement shown, the photo-cell 8 detects the radiation intensity of the sublimed iron heated in the flame 6 since the iron radiates in the visible wavelength range and this radiation intensity is dependent on the CO content of the waste gas. Oxygen from a pipe 3 is introduced into the waste gas 2 through a nozzle 4 so that the resulting flame is at a pre-determined distance from the photo-cell 8. The layer of unaffected waste gas between the flame 6 and the photo-cell 8 filters out any radiation resulting from sublimed iron contained in the gas. Any background radiation in the waste gas is detected by a second photo-cell 14 and its measurement is used to compensate the measurement made with the photo-cell 8.</p>
