Disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte battery comprising a positive electrode containing a positive electrode active material capable of absorbing/desorbing lithium ions, a negative electrode capable of absorbing/desorbing lithium ions, a separator arranged between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte solution. The exothermic onset temperature of the positive electrode is not less than 180°C, and the separator contains heat-resistant fine particles and a thermoplastic resin. The heat-resistant fine particles contain particles having a diameter not more than 0.2 μm and particles having a diameter not less than 2 μm respectively in an amount of not more than 10% by volume. The separator causes a shutdown over a temperature range of not less than 100°C and not more than 150°C. |
