Provided is a measuring instrument drive device which can execute or set a function based on an actual connection state of a measuring instrument and improve user-friendliness of the entire after-meter system. The drive device can drive a plurality of types of measuring instruments (2, 3). The drive device includes a control unit (1) which is arranged so as to perform a bidirectional communication with each of the measuring instruments (2, 3) and has a connection confirmation function to determine whether each of the measuring instruments (2, 3) is connected according to the result of communication with each of the measuring instruments (2, 3). The control unit (1) executes the connection confirmation function by transmitting a connection confirmation request message to each of the measuring instruments (2, 3) so as to confirm that each of the measuring instruments (2, 3) is connected if a connection confirmation response message is received from each of the measurement instruments (2, 3).
