A method and system for releasing radio resources, the method includes the following steps: a user equipment (UE) sends a request message to a network side; if the UE is not currently using any service, the request message carries a flag releasing the radio connection; if, when accepting the request message sent by the UE, said network side judges that a flag releasing the radio connection exists in the request message, said network side initiates the release of the radio link between it and the UE after finishing processing the request.
