A filtration apparatus including a filter tank (11) which is packed with a filter medium (12) in such a manner that the void ratio of a filtration section when water passes through falls within a range of 50 to 95%.  The filter medium (12) has a string-shaped section for capturing suspended solids and can capture suspended solids contained in water (1) to be treated that is passed through the filter tank (11).
