Disclosed is a method and apparatus for estimating the displacement probability profile of the underlying structures of complex human tissue using a high-order Cartesian tensor basis, comprising: defining the displacement probability of water molecules in human tissue by one or more spherical functions; approximating the one or more spherical functions by one or more symmetric high-order Cartesian tensors; computing the unknown coefficients of the one or more high-order Cartesian tensors, and applying the resultant one or more symmetric high-order Cartesian tensors to a given set of magnetic resonance images. |
