The device (1) has a fixing unit for reversibly fixing a support plate (2) to a go-kart type steering wheel and/or to a steering column of a vehicle. A hydraulic pump (6) is fixed to the support plate, where the pump has a fluidic outlet orifice that is connected to a hydraulic circuit of a braking unit. A left actuating lever (4) is supported and guided on the support plate to actuate the hydraulic pump. The support plate comprises a blow-down tank (17) placed in fluidic communication with the hydraulic pump. An independent claim is also included for a method for changing a foot operated brake control to a manual brake control of a vehicle equipped with a braking unit.
