A system for treating organic wastes is provided which is used for the methane fermentation of organic wastes to yield a fermentation liquid and can mitigate the problem that the fermentation liquid, after having been returned to soil, emits a gas having a high warming potential (CH4 or N2O). With the system, effective fertilizer production can be realized without posing a problem concerning an offensive odor. The system for treating organic wastes is characterized by including: a methane fermentation tank (3) in which organic wastes are subjected to high-temperature methane fermentation; and a fermentation-liquid modification part (5) which is disposed after the methane fermentation tank (3) and in which fermentation for improving the water retentivity of the fermentation liquid is conducted.
