It is detected from the output value of a position-adjusting light-receiving element that a light-emitting element holder is rotated so that an optical beam formed of a light emitted from a light-emitting element has entered a positioning target disposed on the side of an ejection failure detecting light-emitting element, and the light-emitting element holder is actually fixed on a base member.  When the entry into the positioning target is not detected from the output value of the position-adjusting light-receiving element even if the light-emitting element holder is rotated, the height position of a light-receiving element holder is subjected to a slide adjustment.  After this, the height position adjustment of the light-receiving element holder and the rotational adjustment of the light-emitting element holder are repeated till the light-emitting element holder is again rotated so that the optical beam enters the positioning target.
