A video recording device performs first dubbing to record first moving picture data on a first recording medium.  After that, the video recording device performs second dubbing to record second moving picture data on a second recording medium.  When the second dubbing is performed, reference information indicating the index of the first moving picture data is also recorded on the second recording medium.
