PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery which is superior in service life performance, and has a high energy density since it is equipped with an additional electrode capable of reducing discharge reserve of a negative electrode. SOLUTION: In the alkaline storage battery equipped with an electrode body including a positive electrode and the negative electrode which are opposed via a separator, and a positive electrode current collector and a negative electrode current collector electrically connected respectively to the positive electrode and the negative electrode, an additional electrode is installed which is composed of a material capable of discharge reaction via the negative electrode and the separator, and electrically insulated from the positive electrode current collector and the negative electrode current collector.
