PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a functional cellulose composition having excellent handling property in a short period of time without inducing aggregation or generation of cakes of cellulose during a drying process, and to provide a functional cellulose composition excellent in handleability which is obtained by the method. SOLUTION: The production method of a functional cellulose composition includes heating and drying an aqueous slurry containing cellulose fibers and a functional compound while kneading the slurry so that the final temperature of the kneaded material becomes ≥100°C.
