<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a feeding device allowing the improvement of durability of a pickup roller. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In this feeding device 1, a control device 16 determines whether or not a brake roller 14 rotates based on the detection result of a rotating state detecting sensor 15 during a sending-out state in which a medium is sent out by a separate roller 12. When it is determined that the brake roller 14 does not rotate, the pickup roller 10 is made to be a non-contact state in which the pickup roller 10 is not brought into contact with the medium P mounted on a paper feeding tray 20, in the case of a non-sending-out state in which the medium P is not sent out by the separate roller 12.
