<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball end mill having a structure being effective for prolonging its service life and improving surface roughness of a work surface and capable of improving strength of a cutting edge, achieving smooth cutting, and enhancing the effect of smooth discharge of chips. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In this ball end mill having the ball cutting edge 2, a rake angle γ of each part of the ball cutting edge 2 is set to a scope of -10° to 0°, and a negative value of the rake angle γ is increased toward an intermediate point in the radial direction from a tip of the ball cutting edge 2 and an outer end 2c in the radial direction of the ball cutting edge and is made maximum at substantially the intermediate point in the radial direction.
