<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distance measuring device which enables stable distance measurement irrespective of weather conditions and other various disturbance factors. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The device includes a light-projecting part 11 which outputs laser light toward a target 2, a light-receiving part 12 which receives reflected light from the target 2, and an operation part 13 which calculates a distance to the target 2, based on a time difference from the time of output of the laser light by the light-projecting part 11 to the time of reception of the reflected light by the light-receiving part 12. The light-projecting part 11 outputs the laser light in the quantity equal to or larger than the maximum receivable light quantity of a light-receiving element 16, while the light-receiving part 12 is equipped with a light quantity adjusting mechanism 17 which adjusts the quantity of incident light so that the quantity of light incident on the light-receiving element 16 be equal to or smaller than the maximum receivable light quantity.
