<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coated paper excellent in a bulky feeling, also excellent in printing resistance and having less roughening of the surface of a printed matter after the printing in using paper blended with a high yield pulp as stock paper for the coated paper. Ž<P>SOLUTION: (1) This stock paper for the coated paper is provided by adding 0.1-0.7 mass% carboxymethylcellulose dispersion adjusted at pH9 to 12 by adding an alkaline substance based on the solid part of the carboxymethylcellulose, and containing 3-20 mass% beat-treated high yield pulp based on the whole pulp. (2) The stock paper for the coated paper described in the above (1) having ≤0.70 degree of etherification is provided.
