MEMBRANE ELECTRODE ASSEMBLY FOR FUEL CELL AND FUEL CELL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly and uniformly supply fuel and oxidant to a catalyst layer and to allow an adequate quantity of water to be contained in the catalyst layer.

SOLUTION: A membrane electrode assembly 18 for fuel cell includes a fuel electrode 13 provided with a catalyst layer 11 and a gas diffusion layer 12, an oxidant electrode 16 provided with a catalyst layer 14 and a gas diffusion layer 15, and an electrolyte film 17 sandwiched between the catalyst layer 11 of the fuel electrode 13 and the catalyst layer 14 of the oxidant electrode 16, and at least one gas diffusion layer 12 (or 15) of the fuel electrode 13 and the oxidant electrode 16 contains a fibrous material 21. Further, the fuel cell includes such a membrane electrode assembly 18 as above.
