<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat exchanger that simply enables accurate detection of the state of contamination in the heat exchanger due to sublimates included in exhaust gas. <P>SOLUTION: The heat exchanger includes an exhaust chamber 4a for taking in high temperature exhaust gas discharged from a heat-treating furnace X, a charge chamber 4b for taking in air to be supplied to the heat-treating furnace X, and a plurality of heat recovery elements 41 for recovering heat of the exhaust gas and heating the air.
