PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid discharge apparatus which can prevent a liquid from leaking out from a nozzle by preventing a "positive pressure" generated by gravity from interacting on the liquid in a liquid discharge head. SOLUTION: The liquid discharge apparatus includes an ink discharge head 12, a driving part 14 for making the nozzle scan in the vertical direction (namely, main scan direction X) by making the ink discharge head 12 reciprocate in the vertical direction, a control part 26 for making the ink discharge head 12 stop in a predetermined waiting position R existing in the movement area, ink containers 16a to 16d for holding the ink discharged from the nozzle, and ink tubes 18a to 18d for feeding the ink in the ink containers 16a to 16d to the ink discharge head 12. The ink containers 16a to 16d are arranged such that the height of liquid level when holding the ink in the maximum is the same as or lower than the height of the lowest point of the nozzle in the ink discharge head 12 stopped in the waiting position R.
