<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal processing apparatus and a signal processing method reducing power consumption in demodulating a modulated signal, suppressing packaging costs, and accurately extracting a modulated component from a signal input. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A PLL 451 calculates phase differences in an I signal and a Q signal of a baseband frequency, and combines the phase differences to produce a combined phase difference signal. On the basis of the combined phase difference signal, a demodulation signal is generated. On the basis of an AFC signal that is generated on the basis of the demodulation signal, an AFC 46 determines whether or not a multiplication frequency of a multiplication signal used for frequency conversion by a DDC 421 is appropriate or not, and generates an AFC signal.
