A stocking has tuck stitch fabric formed by alternating the position of the tuck stitches over an eight course and four wale sequence as shown. The alternate courses A, C, E, F containing the tuck loops are knitted loosely whereas the intervening courses have their stitches drawn more tightly. The anti-ladder effect thereby produced is further enhanced by using a crimper or other yarn having a degree of elasticity in some of the courses.
