<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of forming an appropriate image matching the actual sheet size and having a long operational life. <P>SOLUTION: Nonstandard-size sheets are placed in a second sheet cassette (step S11). Then, an operation section accepts the inputting of the width and length of the sheets placed in the second sheet cassette (step S12). A width detector detects the width of the sheets placed in the second sheet cassette (step S13). The control section accepts an image formation request so that an image may be formed on each of the nonstandard-size sheets (step S14). The control section determines whether the input width and the detected width differ from each other.
