PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chair preventing a sudden turning of a seat and allowing a person to smoothly leave the seat or sit thereon irrelevant to the weight of the person leaving the seat or sitting thereon by applying a moderate resistance to the turning of the seat. SOLUTION: This chair rotationally supports a seat 5 between a use position where the seat is horizontal or backward and downward inclined with respect to a lower structure of the chair and a standby position where the seat is backward and upward inclined; and constantly energizes the seat 5 towards the standby position. This chair, at a support base 3, has a resistance application means 33 which is adapted to apply the resistance when the seat 5 is rotationally turned from the standby position to the use position and to apply a resistance smaller than the resistance in the rotational turning from the standby position to the use position, when the seat 5 is rotationally turned from the use position to the standby position.
