PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sorting device and a sorting method for regulating the feed of a nut having any abnormal screw hole diameter by using the characteristic of a shape surface of a projection nut. SOLUTION: A projection nut 1 has a welding projection 4 formed by plastically deforming corner parts of a square body part. The length of deformation of the corner parts caused by the plastic deformation is divided into a long deformation section 5a and a short deformation section 5b according to the magnitude of the inside diameter of a screw hole. A gate part 15 is provided, through which a nut 1a having the long deformation section 5b is passed, and a nut 1b having the short deformation section 5b cannot be passed according to the difference in length between the long deformation section 5a and the short deformation section 5b.
