PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic shock absorber recording a stroke by swinging in a simple constitution. SOLUTION: This hydraulic shock absorber 1 has an O-ring 10 being a contraction quantity recording means for recording the maximum contraction quantity of a piston rod 3 in a contraction stroke of the piston rod 3, in the piston rod 3 projecting outside a cylinder 2, and can record the stroke by the swinging.
