摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of calculating a ribbon winding-up diameter used for correcting the printing start position on print paper and detecting a consumption amount of a ribbon. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A thermal transfer printing device 1 includes the ribbon 2 wound-up from a supply shaft 3 to a winding-up shaft 7, a motor 8 which rotationally drives the winding-up shaft 7 for winding up the ribbon 2, and a pulse generating means 12 which rotates together with the winding-up shaft 7 and generates the number of pulses proportional to the rotation angle of the winding-up shaft 7. In the calculating method, the winding-up shaft diameter by which the ribbon is wound up is calculated according to the number of pulses from the pulse generating means 12 and the number of steps applied to the motor 8.
