<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television receiver 1 preventing a watcher from missing sounds of a climax in a sub-program. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A sound IC 5 of the television receiver 1 outputs to an AMP 6 a sound signal of a first sound or a second sound selected as an output sound by user settings during double screen display of a master program and a sub-program. While automatic switching of output sound is selected by user settings, when the sub-program comes to a climax, the sound IC 5 switches the output sound from the first sound to the second sound, selects the second sound and outputs the sound signal of the second sound to the AMP 6. When a signal level of the sound signal of the second sound generated by a decode circuit 4 exceeds a predetermined setting value, the sound IC 5 discriminates the climax of the sub-program.
