<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an external device to recognize the capacity of a recording medium with a large capacity of sector size that the external device cannot recognize. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The disc drive unit 20 includes: a disc mounter 25, which is loaded with a disc D and allows reading from or writing to the loaded disc D in units of sectors each having a first sector size; a communication unit 26 communicating with a PC 10; and a controller 21 calculating a second sector size where the sector with the first sector size corresponding to the loaded disc D is divided and the resulting sector can be recognized by the PC 10, and the final sector address of the second sector size of the disc D, and transmitting the second sector size and the final sector address to the PC 10 via the communication unit 26 when receiving a command for verifying the capacity of the recording medium from the PC 10 via the communication unit 26.
