PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely fill inks into all of recording heads at the time of the initial filling of an inkjet printer or when the recording heads are exchanged in maintenance. SOLUTION: The inkjet printer has a plurality of the recording heads 2, an upper tank 6 at a position higher than a nozzle plate 33, a first atmosphere opening valve 22 which makes the interior of the upper tank 6 communicate with an atmosphere or blocks the interior from the atmosphere, a pump 11 which sends the ink to the upper tank 6, a lower tank 7 at a position lower than the nozzle plate 33, a second atmosphere opening valve 26 which makes the interior of the lower tank 7 communicate with the atmosphere or blocks the interior from the atmosphere, and an ink cartridge 9 which supplies the ink to the lower tank 7. The inkjet printer has an ink circulation part 4 in which the ink flows from the upper tank 6 through the recording heads 2 to the lower tank 7 and is pumped up again by the pump 11 to the upper tank 6 to be circulated. The ink is filled into the ink circulation part 4 by controlling the sending action of the pump 11 and the opening and closing action of the first atmosphere opening valve 22.
