The CVD coating has at least one layer composed of a metallic hard material layer X having a thickness of from 10 to 90 nm and at least one further layer composed of a boron-doped metallic hard material layer Y having a boron content of from 0.005 to 5 atom % and a thickness of from 10 to 90 nm. At least one layer X adjoins a layer Y. Coatings according to the invention display a significantly improved wear resistance.
