PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polynucleotide (DNA) which is a gene (DNA) associated with assimilation of galactose, and enhances the assimilation ability of the galactose by modifying a base sequence of the gene, to provide a polypeptide (protein) encoded by the same, and to provide a means for enhancing the productivity of a bio-alcohol from a carbon source containing the galactose by utilizing a microorganism transformed with the new polynucleotide (DNA).

SOLUTION: An isolated polynucleotide has a nucleotide sequence encoding a polypeptide comprising a specific amino acid sequence derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
