<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light diffusing particle which provides an optical molding having high total light transmittance and an excellent light scattering property, to provide a method of manufacturing the light diffusing particle, and to provide a light diffusing resin composition and application thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The light diffusing particle includes a central part with a refractive index of n1 and a surface layer covering the central part. The surface layer includes polymer particles in which the refractive index continuously or gradually changes from n1 to n2, (wherein n2≠n1), toward a surface from an interface with the central part. A gel fraction of the polymer particle is 90% or more.
