PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid ejecting apparatus which can prevent stagnation and adhesion of a liquid and precipitation of color components of the liquid without installing an agitating means in liquid containing parts, etc. SOLUTION: The liquid ejecting apparatus includes: a first containing part (ink tank 2) which holds the liquid; a second liquid containing part (ink cartridge 3) which has smaller capacity for holding the liquid than the first containing part has and is constituted to be attachable and detachable; a communication passage (5) which makes the liquid containing parts communicate with each other; liquid replenishing means (pumps P1 and P2) which reciprocally replenish the liquid between the first liquid containing part and the second liquid containing part via the communication passage; and a control means (11) which controls the liquid replenishing means so that the liquid is replenished from one liquid containing part to the other liquid containing part where the liquid is held until the liquid held in the one liquid containing part reaches a predetermined amount smaller than the capacity for holding the liquid in the second liquid containing part when the liquid is to be replenished from the one liquid containing part among the first and second liquid containing parts to the other liquid containing part.
