<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of improving contrast performance of a predetermined color without causing decrease of illuminating light quantity as a whole, and superior from a point of view in white balance or color unevenness. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A ratio R1 of intensity of G color light emitted from a first light source mirror 12a in a center area to that in a peripheral area is larger than a ratio R2 of intensity of B color light or R color light emitted from a second light source mirror 12b in a center area to that in a peripheral area. Thus, the G color light is collected on the center near to a system optical axis SA as compared with the B color light or the R color light and made incident on a uniformizing optical system 20, so that an incident angle of the G color light on a light valve 40b is made relatively small, and only contrast performance of the G color light is selectively improved.
